“Heritage Saturdays” Offers Free Victorian Crafts and Activities

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department’s Historic Heritage Square invites the public to take a step back in time to enjoy a piece of history while making vintage crafts. Visitors can stop by the Hands-On Heritage House at Historic Heritage Square anytime between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month, beginning March 1when instructors from the Rosson House Museum demonstrate how to make Victorian crafts.

This free program is sponsored by the Rosson House – Heritage Square Foundation & Guild and the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. Historic Heritage Square is located at Seventh Street and Monroe in downtown Phoenix. For additional information call 602-261-8948.

Listed below is the upcoming schedule for Heritage Saturdays:

  • March 1 - Learn how to make beautiful artwork with little more than a potato while learning about the great potato famine of Ireland.
  • April 5 - Spring is in the air and the perfect time to learn more about the fine art of still life drawings and sketch the gardens in and around Histroic Heritage Square. At the same time, visitors will learn more about the legendary artist, Pablo Picasso.
  • May 3 - In the Victorian era seashells were used in a variety of crafts and artwork. Participants will learn about seashell art and create their own masterpiece.
