International Women’s Day Celebration Features Best-Selling Author and Life Coach

Martha Beck, best-selling author and life coach, will be the keynote speaker at the 17th annual International Women's Day luncheon, “Women of Courage: Create the Vision,” at noon Thursday, March 6, at the Phoenix Convention Center South Ballroom, Third and Jefferson streets.

Martha Beck, Ph.D., is a columnist for O: The Oprah Magazine and appears frequently on “Good Morning America” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Beck also consults with Fortune 500 companies and has been a professor at Harvard’s International School of Business.

Sue Glawe, vice president of community relations, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, and Kristine Hedlund, publisher, Phoenix Woman magazine, are the luncheon honorary chairs. The event is hosted by the city of Phoenix, the Phoenix Women's Commission and the International Women's Day Steering Committee.

The event emcee is Olivia Fierro of 3TV Arizona’s Family. Individual tickets for $75 or student and senior citizen tickets for $45 are available by calling the city’s Equal Opportunity Department at 602-261-8242 or by visiting phoenix.gov/phxwomen/luncheon.html. Corporate and community organization sponsorships also are available.

The event raises scholarship funds to help women in our community realize their educational dreams. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona has provided a cash contribution of $25,000 as a Presenting Sponsor. Important in-kind sponsors include Phoenix Woman magazine, Prensa Hispana and 3TV Arizona’s Family at the Presenting Sponsor level and the Arizona Informant at the Gold Sponsor level. Silver sponsors include The Rodel Foundation, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, University of Phoenix – Public Affairs and the Business Journal. Bronze sponsors include Grant Thornton, The Dial Corporation and Maricopa Community Colleges.

Since 1991, more than $700,000 has been raised for college scholarships awarded to 10 local colleges benefiting more than 600 re-entry women.
