Burton Barr Central Library will host an exhibit of origami sculptures by Goran Konjevod titled “Organic Origami,” March 1 – 27 at the library’s @Central Gallery, 1221 N. Central Ave.
A free artist reception will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, March 7. The reception is part of Artlink First Friday, a free self-guided tour of downtown Phoenix galleries and art spaces. Refreshments will be served.
Konjevod’s pieces are abstract shapes formed by the tension of the paper when multiple layers are arranged to form regular or irregular patterns. Many of his sculptures are created using only single uncut sheets of paper or other foldable material such as copper.
Konjevod holds a doctorate degree in mathematical sciences from Carnegie Mellon University. He is currently an assistant professor of computer science and engineering at Arizona State University.
