Burton Barr Central Library hosts independent filmmakers Brian and Dean Ronalds for a presentation and discussion of their work at 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, in the Pulliam Auditorium, 1221 N. Central Ave. The free program is part of Phoenix Public Library’s FirstMondays Art Salon.
The Ronalds Brothers acted in plays, commercials, independent films and industrial videos, while working day jobs at Qwest Communications, before forming their own production company in 2001 using Dean's filmmaking education and Brian's ability to produce. To date the brothers have collaborated on nine short films and one feature-length film.
Their six-minute film, "The Netherbeast of Berm-Tech Industries, Inc.," was selected by more than 30 film festivals worldwide, winning several awards including Best Screenplay at the London International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film and Best Arizona Filmmakers of the Year Award at the 2005 Phoenix Film Festival. The success of this short film inspired the brothers to make a feature-length version titled, “Netherbeast Incorporated.” The film, shot entirely in Phoenix, premiered at the 2007 Arizona Film Festival.
