The deadline to nominate outstanding students with disabilities or community members who have contributed significantly to the advancement of people with disabilities for the 2008 Ability Counts Student and Community Awards is 5 p.m. Friday, June 27.
The student awards recognize outstanding students with disabilities for their personal and academic goals. The awards are given in three categories: grades 1-6, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12. To be eligible, students must have a disability and reside or attend a school in Phoenix.
The community awards recognize those who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of people with disabilities in the city of Phoenix in the following award categories: Architectural Accessibility, Employer and Employee of the Year, Don Aldrich Advocacy Award and Mayor's Award.
Student and community winners will receive special recognition by the mayor and City Council.
