13th Life Saved at Phoenix Sky Harbor with AED
Phoenix, Arizona – Two Transportation Security Administration Employees and a Phoenix Police Officer saved the life of a 69 year old woman with the help of an Automated External Defibrillator at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The woman was standing on the curb at Terminal 4 shortly after 6:00 p.m. yesterday when she collapsed. Phoenix Police Officer Russ Rader, TSA Screener Richard Krull and TSA Supervisor Tony Quintana were nearby and rushed to help the woman. The TSA employees located the nearest AED and applied it. Officer Rader used the mask from the AED kit to perform rescue breathing. In addition, Richard Krull administered chest compressions.
The woman’s pulse and respiration were restored. She was communicating with paramedics when she was placed in an ambulance and taken to the hospital. Firefighters credit Mr. Krull, Mr. Quintana and Officer Rader with saving the woman’s life.
This is the 13th time a life has been saved with an AED at Sky Harbor since December 2000, when the devices were installed. Sky Harbor has more than 55 AED’s available in public areas and employee work spaces. Officers with the Phoenix Police Airport Bureau bicycle team also carry AED’s with them at the airport.
