Team from Sky Harbor Leaving Tomorrow to Assist New Orleans Airport
Phoenix, Arizona -- A team of electricians and building maintenance workers from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is heading to Louisiana Tuesday September 20 to help complete repairs on the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The Sky Harbor team offered its services to the New Orleans airport immediately after Hurricane Katrina hit, causing severe damage. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport requested assistance from airports closest to New Orleans first and now, technicians from Sky Harbor have been asked to travel to Louisiana to relieve those first responders and help finish repairs.
Sky Harbor is sending five electricians and seven building maintenance workers to help repair damage to buildings and airfield equipment at the New Orleans airport. The crew will be completely self-contained, driving to New Orleans with trailers full of equipment, food and water. They will also bring four RV’s, which will serve as sleeping quarters. A Phoenix Aviation fleet mechanic will accompany the crew to maintain the vehicles. Once in New Orleans, Sky Harbor personnel will work hand-in-hand with technicians from other western U.S. airports.
