Phoenix Sky Harbor Joins Mayor’s Effort to Bench Crime

Phoenix, Arizona -- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has installed nine benches in Terminals 3 and 4 in support of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon’s Front Porch Bench Initiative. Mayor Gordon and the Phoenix City Council are encouraging Valley residents to install benches in front of their homes as a way of reducing crime. “The front porch bench is symbolic of a simpler time when neighbors really knew one another and looked out for one another. Having these benches throughout our Sky Harbor neighborhood terminals is just a different way to be vigilant and be involved,” said Gordon.

Home Depot is sponsoring the initiative by providing 1,000 benches to residents who have given back to their community, including Block Watch captains. Residents may also nominate themselves or neighbors to receive the benches through a form available online at phoenix.gov.

The Sky Harbor benches are located in pre-security waiting areas and marked with “Join Your Neighbors and Help Bench Crime.” Four benches are located in Terminal 3 while the remaining five benches are located in Terminal 4.
