The Longview Neighborhood Recreation Center is a 13,000 square-foot, multi-generational facility. This architecturally distinctive structure opened on Aug. 8, 1998. The Center’s professional recreation staff programs a variety of educational, recreational and social programs for people of all ages. The Longview Neighborhood Recreation Center offers something for the entire family.

Amenities

The facility has various amenities, including a gymnasium, a game room, classrooms, and a kitchen. The full-size gymnasium has open-gym periods so participants may enjoy a variety of activities. It also houses youth and teen basketball programs and a walking club that meets Monday through Friday. The reception area and game room provide an array of activities, including billiards, Ping-Pong, foosball, TV/VCR, video and board games.

Gymnasium: Variety of activities, such as: basketball, floor hockey, walking club (17 laps equals 1 mile)

Game Room: billiards, foosball, TV/VCR, video games, board games

Classroom: classroom can accommodate 30 people theater style or 15 people classroom style. One room with tile floor and easy access to the kitchen is used as a food-serving area, cooking and arts/crafts classes

Kitchen: a full-size kitchen with amenities. (Not a commercial kitchen)

Facility Rental

With the exception of the gymnasium, the Longview Neighborhood Recreation Center offers a single classroom for meetings, classes, parties and other social gatherings. Space can accommodate 15 individuals classroom style and 30 theater style. Please contact the Center at (602) 534-6570 for availability and rental information.

Programs

Special Interest Classes: Longview Neighborhood Recreation Center strives to provide a variety of educational and recreational classes at minimal or no cost. Classes are designed for all ages and are offered throughout the year during four, eight-week sessions. Some examples of our most popular classes include toddlers (games, sports, arts and crafts, story time, no-bake cooking); youth and teen (karate, gymnastics, dance, arts and crafts) and adult (yoga, drama, line-dancing).

Teen Volunteers/Teen Time: offers teens 13-17 years old a variety of activities, including sports, games, movie nights, music, dances, fundraisers, field trips, food, fun and more. Teen Time is popular because teens plan their own activities and recruit additional participants themselves. The program is free, but there may be fees for field trips, depending on the trip.

Walking Club:
a free introduction to exercise for adult’s aged 18 and up. Participants can enjoy walking in a safe, cool and comfortable gymnasium as an alternative to walking on the busy streets. An end of the month brunch is held on the first Monday of each month where members can get their blood pressure checked, socialize with one another and celebrate the amount of miles they achieved for the month.

 


Summer Programs:

Three unique programs are offered exclusively in the summertime and are designed specifically for youths, 6-12 years old. All three programs are operated Monday through Thursday. Please contact Longview Neighborhood Recreation Center at (602) 534-6570 for specific time, dates and availability of our programs.

“Kreative” Kids: program blends art and cooperative games to emphasize creativity rather than agility. Guest speakers and field trips are scheduled throughout the program.

Sports of Sorts: offers a variety of sports activities concentrating on fundamentals, fun, cooperation and physical fitness. Guest speakers and field trips are scheduled throughout the program, along with awards recognition for individual efforts.

Sports Leagues

This program is a co-ed basketball league for youth ages 7-15. Participants will meet twice a week with their team, once for practice and a second time for their game. This league emphasizes
participation, fun and sportsmanship.

Ages 7-9: $30 (fee includes: T-shirt, player award, equipment)

Ages 9-12 $35 (fee includes: T-shirt, player award, equipment, referees)

Ages 12-15: $35 (fee includes: T-shirt, player award, equipment, referees)

Open Gym Schedule

Longview Neighborhood Recreation Center offers a variety of activities in the gymnasium such as men and womens basketball, walking clubs, volleyball, summer programs for youths, and a set time for teens only.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are opportunities to volunteer for both teenagers (13-17) and adults 18 and up.

Volunteers work with Longview Neighborhood Recreation Center staff to enhance programs and add to participant satisfaction. The Center needs volunteers for the front desk, special-interest classes, special events and other activities. Call (602) 534-6570 for additional information.
