Adopt-A-Park is a volunteer program that allows the City of Phoenix to maximize its resources and offer residents an opportunity to give something back to their community. The City of Phoenix has hundreds of parks, preserves, and facilities that are available for a group or individual to adopt or sponsor. The city also has established a program -- Change for Phoenix -- in which you can donate money directly to the city department or service of your choice.

For groups or individuals looking to adopt a park area:

  • We ask only that you can commit to visiting your adopted area at least once a month for the length of time to which you agreed upon acceptance to the program. A typical volunteer day lasts 2-4 hours.
  • You can adopt an entire park or specific parts of a park such as:
    • Sports Fields
    • Flower Beds
    • Trails
    • Courts
    • Park benches/Picnic Tables
    • Playgrounds
    • Urban Lakes and Waterways
    • Trees & Shrubs
    • Parking Areas
    • Exercise courses

What materials will be supplied by the City of Phoenix?

  • While the City of Phoenix asks that the volunteer groups attempt to supply all of their materials for the projects, limited supplies can be made available. The City of Phoenix will partner with the volunteer group for these projects to provide trash and recycling bags for all projects. We will also take care of all removal of trash and recycling. With sufficient notice, the City of Phoenix will also offer assistance in the transporting of plants or other larger objects that are part of your group project.
  • Potential items that will be needed for projects include:
  • Gloves
  • Litter stick (garbage picker-upper)
  • Gardening tools such as hoes, shovels, rakes, pruning sheers, wheelbarrow.
  • Brooms and water hoses
  • Safety equipment including glasses, face masks, sunscreen, and first aid kit.

Will we be recognized for our services as a volunteer group?

  • The City of Phoenix will recognize you as an individual volunteer or a group at the beginning of your agreement with a press release and on our Adopt-A-Park Recognition website page. After three months of service in a Phoenix park you will be awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Director of Parks & Recreation as well as being recognized at that month’s public parks and recreation board meeting.
