Meeting Summaries

Introductory Meeting: Approximately 25 people attended the introductory Station Area Plan meeting held on March 1, 2005, at the Black Box Theater of Brophy Prep. This meeting was designed as an Introductory meeting to brief the attendees on the Station Area planning process.

Principal Planner Sandra Zwick introduced staff and explained the presentations for this evening's meeting. Presentations included the video on light rail and a powerpoint presentation (933 KB, PDF1)developed specifically for this station area. She stated the process was to develop the community's vision for future development within a half mile of the station. She also noted that the development community has expressed interest along the light rail alignment.

Ms. Zwick advised the group that the next meeting, which will be in April or May, will have a panel of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) experts. Two months later, there will be a community "visioning" workshop. A fourth meeting will be a workshop to address "How do we get there?" The fifth meeting will be to review alternative land uses and design standards. Staff will continue to work with the community on these for one or two additional meetings. The final meeting will be a presentation of the final plan. The entire process is expected to last 1 to 1½ years.

Ms. Zwick then played the video and powerpoint presentations. She gave her phone number and email addresses for contact, then announced a five minute break before taking questions and comments.

After the break the important points were recapped:

  • Station Area Plans are for ½ mile around the stations
  • ½ mile is a 5-10 minute walking distance
  • All segments of the community should participate in the process
  • This will be a long term plan; 20-25 years
