Weed and Seed Program
Información proveída por el Departamento de Policía

The U.S. Department of Justice has provided a Weed and Seed grant to the City of Phoenix and community partners in the Maryvale Precinct that enables officers in the precinct to focus additional resources and time in the identified area.  The identified area is known as the "Maryvale Weed and Seed" site and consists of McDowell to Thomas / 39th Avenue – 51st Avenue and Thomas to Indian School Road / 39th to 47th Avenue.  For more information about Weed and Seed programs nationwide, please visit http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ccdo/ws/welcome.html.

If you would like to become a part of our Weed and Seed program, please contact Officer Amber Campbell for more information at 602-495-6832.  A community law enforcement meeting is held the first Tuesday of every month at the Golden Gate Community Center, 1625 N. 39th Avenue, at 5:00 p.m.  All Maryvale Weed and Seed residents are welcome.

The Maryvale Precinct is currently hosting a poster contest and a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to find young people who want to participate in our anti-graffiti campaign.  The theme of the contest is focused on the “Graffiti Hurts” concept that aims to increase awareness of the multi-level negative impact that graffiti has on the community.  The City of Phoenix Police Department is committed to taking a pro-active approach by combining forces with the community, media and youth to combat the graffiti problem that is an increasing epidemic. All submissions must received by August 29, 2008.  This is for Weed and Seed residents only!

In July, a committee made up of residents of the Maryvale Weed and Seed area, began recognizing up to 10 houses a month as “Properties of the Month” to recognize households that take the time to take care of their property.  The homeowners or residents are given a sign to recognize their pride in their home; some are given $25.00 WalMart gift cards and when available, a “Mayor”s Bench” is given to one household.

The July properties of the month were:

4722 W. Holly
4228 W. Encanto
1843 N. 46th Drive
2621 N. 48th Drive
4917 W. Cypress
4147 W. Encanto
4908 W. Virginia Ave

The August properties of the month were:

4708 W. Hubbell St.

4051 W. Encanto Blvd

5007 W. Holly St.

2636 N. 45th Ave.

3314 N. 39th Ave.

On behalf of the Phoenix Police Department and the Weed and Seed program, we would like to thank these households for maintaining pride in their neighborhood.
