Canyon Corridor Weed & Seed Project
Information Provided by the Police Department

Program Overview:

The Canyon Corridor Weed and Seed project officially kicked off on October 1, 2006. Our goal is to affect long term, positive change by partnering with area residents, faith based organizations, business and community leaders with local government and law enforcement to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. Precinct Neighborhood Enforcement Teams will provide the Weed and Seed area with problem solving innovative enforcement which by design will reduce violent crime and high calls for service. Sergeant Steve Wamsley of the Neighborhood Enforcement Team responsible for the 91 area within the Cactus Park Precinct, is supervising this site and the many positive programs being implemented.

This project concentrates on the reduction of violent crime, including murder, forcible rape, aggravated assault, robbery, drugs, and prostitution. Funding obtained from the Weed and Seed grant will be utilized in programs modeling those established during the Violence Impact Project as well as supplement meetings with neighborhood organizations, and multi housing units. Precinct officers have initiated several programs to include Apartment Enforcement, Blight Light, Hotel/Motel, Prostitution/Drug Enforcement, and strategic enforcement. The geographic boundaries for this site are Indian School road to Missouri Avenue and I-17 to North 35th Avenue. The following table demonstrates a current recap of the Weed & Seed site.
