The COPS program is now a partner site with Project Ayuda. Project Ayuda, which means "help" in Spanish, provides service opportunities for college students and community members in order to strengthen the communities of Phoenix and Tucson. The partnership with Project Ayuda means that when you accumulate volunteer hours, you can use them for money towards college tuition or student loans. Yes, you read that correctly: now you can get money for college by volunteering. For example, if you volunteer 300 hours in a year, Project Ayuda will give you $1000. If you volunteer 450 hours in a year, you’ll get $1250. 675 hours volunteered get you $1800 towards college. And 900 hours over two years gets you $2363 towards college tuition. Go to the website, http://www.pvc.maricopa.edu/~ayuda, for more information and an online orientation. So volunteer, help out the Phoenix Police Department, and pay for your books. Volunteer some more, help out the Phoenix Police Department a lot, and pay for your semester. |
