Anytown Arizona's Empowertown: Anytown Arizona is offering a one-day program which is designed to raise diversity awareness within your campus community. The program provides a structure within which students who don't normally associate can learn about each other and discuss the social themes they encounter on a daily basis. Sparky's School Tour: ASU's Sparky mascot will be visiting schools for a recess, pep rally or assembly during the 2008-09 school year. Heard Museum Posters: The Heard Museum has published three new posters and many are available from previous years for Valley teachers. The posters are 14" x 17" and your total cost never exceeds $5, even for all 20 posters! No preview is available. Awards for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education: The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge Leavey Awards for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education honors outstanding educators who excite a commitment in their students to the free enterprise system and unleash the entrepreneurial skills of their students at the elementary, junior high school, high school and college level. Maximum Award: $7,500. Eligibility: teachers at K-12 schools, colleges and universities. Deadline: October 1, 2008. http://www.ffvf.org/leavey_info.asp

Mini-grants for Public Schools and Public Libraries: Ezra Jack Keats Mini-grant Program for Public Schools and Public Libraries supports educators, parents and children in their efforts to spread literacy and love of learning. Maximum Award: $500. Eligibility: public schools and libraries anywhere in the United States and its protectorates. Deadline: September 15, 2008. Grants for Math Mentoring Programs Using Actuaries: The Actuarial Foundation Advancing Student Achievement Mentoring Program awards grants to schools and groups to develop a viable mentoring program involving actuaries in the teaching of mathematics to children in private and public schools. Collaboration among school systems, local actuarial clubs, corporations and other stakeholders in education is encouraged in order to enhance the chances of success, particularly on a long-term basis. Maximum Award: $30,000. Eligibility: All schools and groups willing to undertake a math mentoring program that involves local actuaries as volunteers. Water Issues for Teachers: Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) classes are Arizona specific and correlated to state standards in all curricular areas, including science, language arts, math and social studies. Teachers of all grade levels are welcome to attend the workshops, which can go toward advanced training credits in most school districts. Books Across America: The National Education Association's Books Across America Library Books Awards Program enables public school libraries serving economically disadvantaged students to purchase books. Maximum Award: $1,000. Eligibility: Practicing pre-kindergarten through grade 12 school librarians, teachers, or education support professionals in a U.S. public school in which at least 70 percent of the students are eligible for the free or reduced-price lunch program.
