HANDS-ON HERITAGE HOUSE-- The new free companion museum of the 1895 Rosson House is now open. Come join fun historical hands-on activities and exhibits inside the California bungalow style Stevens-Haustgen House. Look through a stereoscope, try your hand at old fashioned games, investigate the tools of kitchen and laundry duties over 100 years ago and more. This participatory exhibit space is also the headquarters of our scheduled school tours and Heritage Saturday activities. The Hands-On Heritage House, (602)534-9382, is open Wednesday - Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday Noon – 4 p.m. Closed Easter Sunday. HERITAGE SATURDAYS-- Make and take vintage crafts. Bring the whole family to the Carriage House at Historic Heritage Square, 7th St. and Monroe (1 block. South of Van Buren in downtown Phoenix). KIDS PLAY FREE AT CITY 9-HOLES THIS SUMMER-- Junior golfers ages 17 and under will play for FREE -- every day, all day -- at the three Phoenix 9-hole courses, when accompanied by a paid adult. The special is good for one youth per adult. If only one adult is present, additional kids’ rounds are only $5 each. The Phoenix Youth Golf Program offers affordable golf lessons year-round to young golfers between the ages of 5 and 17 and the $30 Junior Play Pass good for 30 days at all Phoenix golf courses on a space available basis. ARCHAEOLOGY FOR KIDS-- Become a Junior Archaeologist! Learn about the science of archaeology and the Hohokam people by participating in a simulated excavation of a Hohokam pithouse. Actual Hohokam artifacts are used in this program. Classes are generally October - May, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and are divided by age (ages 7-11 first Saturday, 10-14 third Saturday). Advance registration required. Specially arranged workshops are available for groups of ten or more. Program fee: $10 Museum members; $12 Non-members. FULL MOON SUNSET HIKE: #52657-- Experience South Mountain Park by the light of the Dog Day Moon! This hike will explore the Mormon Loop Trail and include a moonlight stroll through Hidden Valley. This hike will be approximately 3.7 miles round-trip. Hike pace will be steady with short, infrequent stops along the way. EXPANDED SILENT SUNDAYS TO NORTH MOUNTAIN PARK-- Cyclists, skateboarders, wheelchair users and stroller-riding tots will soon get to call the roads of North Mountain Park their own one day each month when the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department expands it’s popular Silent Sunday event to the area beginning in February. North Mountain Park, 10600 N. 7th Street, will host Silent Sundays from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month. Vehicles will park in the lot at the Havasupai Ramada reserving the park’s roadways for non-motorized use. Trailhead access sites outside of the park will remain open to vehicles. The kickoff event is Feb. 8 with the remaining 2009 dates: May 10, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9, Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8, and Dec. 13. For more information call (602) 495-5506.

ADAPTIVE WILDERNESS CAMPING #58434-- Ages 14 and up. Enjoy some time relaxing and playing in the cool pine country at the City of Phoenix’s Camp Colley, located north of Payson. Activities at camp may include outdoor cooking, hiking, and visiting a fire lookout tower. Cost includes food, round trip transportation to and from Camp Colley. Space is limited so sign up soon!
