Friday, August 8
NIGHT GOLF AT PALO VERDE—Friday night check in is 7 p.m.  The course will be lined with glow lights and glow balls will be provided.  $25 per person.  One child plays free when playing with paying adult. $15 for each additional child.  City of Phoenix Night Golf Adult/Junior Championship will be Friday, August 15 at Palo Verde, and Saturday August 16 at Encanto 9.   Palo Verde is located at 6215 N. 15th Ave. (602) 249-9930.    Register online at www.phoenix.gov/golf.  To book a private night golf tournament call (602) 262-4540.

Sunday, August 24
“SILENT SUNDAY” AT SOUTH MOUNTAIN PARK/PRESERVE--  For each Silent Sunday, the park’s main Central Avenue access roadways will be closed to motor vehicles from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., reserving them for the entire day for non-motorized uses. Each Silent Sunday also features free drop-in park ranger guided interpretive programs and hikes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Mountain Environmental Education Center, located adjacent to the park’s main entrance. All roads past the main gatehouse at the Central Avenue entrance, including the Summit Road, are closed to motor vehicles for the day. Visitors can park in the free public lot adjacent to the Environmental Education Center. Only roadways accessible from the preserve’s Central Avenue entrance are closed for Silent Sundays. All other access points and parking areas, including trailheads at Pima Canyon, Desert Foothills, Beverly Canyon, and the Mormon Trail, will remain open. First and third Saturday monthly
ARCHAEOLOGY FOR KIDS--  Become a Junior Archaeologist! Learn about the science of archaeology and the Hohokam people by participating in a simulated excavation of a Hohokam pithouse. Actual Hohokam artifacts are used in this program. Classes are generally October - May, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and are divided by age (ages 7-11 first Saturday, 10-14 third Saturday). Advance registration required. Specially arranged workshops are available for groups of ten or more.
