Wonderful Outdoor World

In 1996 the City of Phoenix became the second city in the nation to host the Wonderful Outdoor World (WOW) program.  The program is designed to be a first time urban camping experience for youth in 4th to 6th grades.  WOW educates participants on camping skills such as picking a tent site, outdoor cooking, building a camp fire and setting up a tent.

WOW also strives to teach campers how to care for the environment by leaving “No Trace”.  Currently WOW activities also include star gazing, fishing, and  live nocturnal animal demonstrations.  WOW participants come from other City of Phoenix recreation programs including PAC and recreation centers.
