Keep
Phoenix Beautiful
is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and a
non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization (formerly known as
Phoenix Clean and Beautiful). They have been working
in Phoenix since 1982 to promote the preservation
and protection of our environment. With the help of
thousands of volunteers annually and financial
support from the City of Phoenix Public Works
Department and many corporate partners, Keep Phoenix
Beautiful dedicates its efforts to recycling
initiatives and education, litter reduction,
beautification, and community improvement
activities.
Through our partnerships and
alliances, Keep Phoenix Beautiful works toward
building a healthier, cleaner and more beautiful

The City
of Phoenix Public Works Department is investigating the
possibility of a utility scale solar plant development
at the SR 85-Landfill
through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. The
SR-85 Landfill is the city's only active landfill
and is located west of Phoenix in the town of Buckeye,
near the Patterson Road exit. The solar plant may be
combined with a landfill gas to energy project on
available land (up to 1200 acres) owned by the Public
Works Department, click here for

have an estimated plant output of 150-200 megawatts. To

The Evaluation Team has completed the
review process for RFP #09-MF-EM-002. The respondents
have been ranked as follows:
Tessera Solar #1 Johnson Controls, Inc.
#2 BrightSource Energy, Inc. #3
Staff will request
City Council authorization to enter into contract
negotiations with the Number 1 ranking firm or to
authorize parallel negotiations with the Number 1 and
Number 2 ranked firms.

'Environmental Award
for Outstanding Achievement'
The city of
Phoenix has earned a prestigious Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) – Pacific Southwest
Environmental Award for Outstanding Achievement for
its coordination of the
“Bag Central Station – Where Plastic Bags Belong”
program and for its continued efforts with its
mobile Household Hazardous
Waste (HHW) program. Awards were distributed at
the EPA –Region 9 headquarters in San Francisco by
U.S. EPA acting Regional Administrator Laura Yoshii,
on Thursday, April 16..
