LANDSCAPE LEGACIES: THE ART & ARCHAEOLOGY
Opening March 5, 2010

The interplay of people, weather, and geological processes shape a society's lifeways, leaving enduring marks on the landscape. These relationships are evident in the landscape of Perry Mesa, north of Phoenix, where people have left their marks over the centuries. Landscape Legacies: The Art and Archaeology of Perry Mesa, explores the interaction of the environment and people of Perry Mesa - the cultural landscape - through the photographer's lens, and through the scientific examination of a changing archaeological landscape. This exhibit features the recent research of Arizona State University Doctoral Candidate Hoske Schaafsma on prehistoric agricultural practices on Perry Mesa, north of Phoenix, as well as display a number of large-format photographs of nearby rock art by photographer Pat Gorraiz. General Museum admission and hours apply.
