Maryvale Baseball Park is a supurb example of a state-of-the-art recreational amenity for the community of Maryvale. It is a testament to the achievements possible when entities with similar interests come together to work toward a common goal.
The City of Phoenix, anxious to provide additional recreational amenities on ther west side, worked with Maricopa County Stadium District to exlore facility development options. Longtime Phoenix developer John F. Long provided two critical components of the project by agreeing to donate the 56 acres of land necessary to accomodate the park and to assist the District in financing a portion of the project. Additional funding was provided by the Maricopa County Flood Control District in exchange for the incorporation of much needed regional flood control component into the project design.
As owner and operator of Maryvale Baseball Park, the City negotiated a fifteen year use agreement with the Milwaukee Brewers, ensuring the team's presence in Maryvale for Major League Baseball Spring Training through 2012. During the majority of the year, when not occupied by the Brewers, the facility is available to serve the recreational needs of the community and other minor league activities.
