- Between July 2006 and June 2007, Phoenix residents used about 105 billion gallons of water.
- Phoenix water is provided to about 1.5 million residents.
- The total water service area for Phoenix is about 540 square miles.
- There are more than 401,937 water accounts. All accounts are metered and billed monthly.
- Between July 2006 and June 2007, the demand for water ranged from a high of about 427 million gallons per day during the summer to 178 million gallons per day during winter months. The greatest demand for water recorded during this period was 426.75 million gallons on
July 20, 2005.
- In Phoenix, each person uses about 170 gallons each day at home.
- City reservoirs have a combined storage capacity of nearly 350 million gallons.
- Water is delivered to customers through more than 6,790 miles of water mains.
- There are 51,345 fire hydrants connected to the Phoenix water system.
- About 95 percent of the water used by Phoenix comes from surface sources, Salt, Verde and Colorado rivers; the remaining 5 percent comes from wells. Surface water is delivered to the city by the Central Arizona Project (CAP) and the Salt River Project (SRP).
- The water is treated at six water treatment plants with a combined capacity of about 670 million gallons per day.
- Phoenix water is fluoridated at a level of .75 parts per million. That's about a drop of fluoride in a swimming pool.
- The total wastewater service area is about 540-square-miles. .
- The department has about 373,035 wastewater service connections.
- The city manages about 4,824 miles of sewer lines, the largest pipe being 90 inches in diameter. Pipes connecting homes to the sewer system are four inches in diameter.
- The department operates three wastewater treatment plants with a combined capacity of about 250.25 million gallons per day. The 91st Avenue Wastewater Treatmernt Plant - our largest - also treats wastewater from the cities of Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Tempe.
