YouthBuild Phoenix is a community development program that addresses several core issues facing low-income communities: housing, education, employment, crime prevention and leadership development. The program helps out-of-school Phoenix youth, ages 18 to 24, obtain their high school diplomas or GEDs while gaining occupational training in the construction industry. YouthBuild participants will build two Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-Certified Platinum level homes in established neighborhoods. The first home site has been identified and is located at 2935 W. Encanto Boulevard.

These “green” YouthBuild projects support important elements of Mayor Gordon’s 17-point Green Phoenix Initiative, by building greener neighborhoods throughout the community, educating youth about the importance of creating a “green” city and actually training youth in Sustainable Construction.
The three- to eight-month program offers stipends every two weeks while in training, plus additional performance incentives. Assistance with job placement, continuing education and apprenticeship training are part of the program.
