Celebrating Arizona’s Centennial
To celebrate Arizona’s Centennial and more than a quarter century of cultural achievements by the Phoenix Arts and Culture Commission, the City of Phoenix opened “The Gallery @ City Hall” (click here for the youtube video), in March of 2012, featuring key works from the city’s nearly 100 years of collecting art. The works come from the city's Municipal Art Collection, one of our region’s most historic cultural holdings. The current exhibit,"Feel the Heat: Desert Prints,” featuring 55 prints of the Arizona and Southwest landscape by George Elbert Burr and Oscar Strobel.
Displayed throughout city buildings, the works have had an ever-changing presence in public hallways and gathering areas. The opening of The Gallery @ City Hall will give the public a new place to enjoy the legacy of art that Phoenicians began building in 1915. Additional information on the Municipal Collection.
