Evaluation Criteria

Applications are evaluated and ranked by panelists using the criteria listed below.

Because your application will compete with other proposals, be sure to address as many points under each criterion as possible in your application.

The grant review panel will be assigning a ranking to each criterion category according to the degree to which the project responds to the subcriteria

Artistic Merit

  • Commitment to high artistic standards
  • Innovative programming that challenges audiences and the community
  • Recognition locally for high quality, innovative programming

Financial Position

  • Accurate budgets
  • A diverse base of financial support through earned income, private funding and government sources
  • Budget supports artistic efforts and promotes organization's stability
  • organization's overall fiscal health
Administrative Ability
  • Qualifications and experience of staff, volunteers and board
  • Board governance structure, responsibilities and involvement
  • Organization's ongoing capacity building progress

Public Value

  • Demographics and characteristics of the audience the organization serves
  • Commitment to community outreach and audience development
  • Organization's use of collaboration and partnerships to further mission
Diversity
  • Effectiveness of organization in developing audiences that represent the ethnic diversity of Phoenix
  • Effectiveness of programming choices that were made to reach out to ethnic audiences, and accessible programs targeting ethnic communities
  • Organization's efforts to recruit board, staff, artists and volunteers who represent the ethnic diversity of the city.
