(June 2008) Dean Brennan from the Planning Department was inducted
as a Fellow in the American Institute of Certified Planners. This
is the highest honor given to professional planners for exemplary
service and commitment to the Planning profession.

Landmark Award
(April 2008) The Planning Department received the award for the Phoenix Mountain
Preserve Plan. More than 30 years ago, the city of Phoenix set a national precedent when it
protected 7,500 acres of open space in the Phoenix Mountains. Read the news release
Roads and Streets Maintenance Rodeo, First Place
(April 2008) A crew from the Street Transportation Department's Maintenance
Division won first place at the recent event in Mesa. The Asphalt Patch Team included Ray Cruz,
Fernando Figueroa, Leondre Harris and Ernest Gongora, all from the Southwest General Maintenance
Yard. It’s the third year in a row that employees from that site have won the asphalt patch event.
Metro Magazine
(June 2006) The magazine named Phoenix America’s Hottest Transit Town in its July 2006 issue for its light rail efforts.
Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), Livable Communities Award
(Oct. 2004) Phoenix was recognized for street improvements made along Seventh Avenue, between Camelback and Indian School roads. Read the news release
