Acting Assistant City Manager Danny Murphy has worked for the city of Phoenix for nearly 30 years - most recently as Aviation Director overseeing three airports owned and operated by the city of Phoenix: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix Deer Valley and Phoenix Goodyear Airport. Overseeing Phoenix Sky Harbor was similar to managing a city, with nearly 200,000 visitors per day, police officers and firefighters assigned to the airport, shops, restaurants and more than 30,000 public and private sector employees.
Prior to coming to the Aviation Department, Murphy served as Acting Director of the Phoenix Water Services Department overseeing more than 1,400 employees, an operating budget of $210 million, and a five year capital improvement program of $1.8 billion. He was responsible for ensuring that Phoenix’s Water Services Department provided high quality, reliable and cost-effective water services to more than 1.4 million residents.
Prior to serving in the Water Services Department, Murphy was the Chief Information Officer for Information Technology Services overseeing city technology and telecommunications and managed an operating budget of more than $37 million and a capital budget of more than $70 million.
Murphy earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He also completed the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government from Harvard University.
