Wow! It's been a year since I took office, and I am enjoying the work we are doing for our constituents in District 5.
We have had a lot of direct involvement with our constituents and are working diligently with other city staff and
departments to resolve your problems and address issues
that are important to our quality of life in the district.
Many of you have participated in the multiple district forums we have hosted. We will continue these meetings and hope you will be able to join us next time.
As I promised prior to taking office, I, along with Phoenix's Youth and Education and
Community and Economic Development departments, hosted a School-to-Work Workforce Development Conference that brought representatives together from our school districts and business communities to discuss partnerships between our businesses and schools and employment skills needed by our high school graduates. We will continue to follow-up on this program and host annual meetings to keep this effort moving forward.
The voters of the City of Phoenix overwhelmingly
supported the Transit 2000 Initiative. District 5 has already seen increased service with extended hours of operations
and Sunday and holiday service. New buses are on order
and drivers are being hired and trained for the next phase
of expansion and new routes. These changes will take time, so we appreciate your patience as the city implements
the new services.
Many of us are excited about the improved facilities
and equipment installed in the parks as a result of the Parks and Preserve Initiative passed last year. There are more improvements slated, and we will be seeing Desert West Park completed and the new Camelback Ranch Park started.
We have seen continued growth in our neighborhood block watches and associations. I appreciate your
commitment and participation in keeping our neighborhoods clean and safe. If you would like for me to speak to your group, please call my office at 602-262-7446 to schedule
an appointment, as I would be happy to visit with you
and your neighbors.
I am proud to be the City Councilman for District 5.
Thank you for your support and confidence. I'm looking
forward to an equally successful 2001.
Enjoy a safe and Happy Holiday.
As always, if you have any issues or concerns you'd like to discuss, please call my office at 602-262-7446 or e-mail me at cmattox@ci.phoenix.az.us .
Since I took office 11 months ago, District 5 has opened 858
constituent cases and closed 739 cases. A breakdown of the cases shows that the Neighborhood Services, Street Transportation, and Police departments accounted for 85 percent of the calls received. As always, our office is ready to help you with any of your
neighborhood issues. Please feel free to call us any time we
can be of assistance to you at 602-262-7446 or e-mail
