Prior to serving the City Council he was active in District 6 for many years, including serving on the Camelback East and Ahwatukee Foothills Village Planning Committees. His priorities include neighborhood preservation, increased police and fire services, building a sustainable city, educational partnerships, and mountain park and open space preservation. He is a leader in bringing diversity to our local economy, including higher wage jobs and a better educated workforce.

He served as lead councilman in the successful effort to make Phoenix the headquarters of the International Genomics Consortium and the creation and development of the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), a leading genomics research facility in the heart of the city. This forward thinking research facility will create long term medical and science benefits, high wage jobs, cutting edge economic development opportunities and science and math education improvements. He is an advocate for education, including leading the effort for improved k-12 partnerships, the development of a center city higher education campus and medical school.  He also serves on the City Council Public Safety and Veterans Subcommittee and the Neighborhoods, Housing, Historic Preservation, Arts & Culture Subcommittee.

In his spare time, Greg volunteers for Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters, where he is a big brother mentor for Desmond, a graduate of Tempe High School. He was named 2003 Arizona Big Brother of the Year. He serves on the Board of Directors for Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Arizona’s Children Association, Arizona Theater Company and Downtown YMCA. Greg graduated from the Phoenix Citizen's Police Academy. He was named “40 under 40” in 2001 by the Phoenix Business Journal.
