Paradise Valley Fire Plan Will Benefit PV, Phoenix and Scottsdale

The Paradise Valley Town Council made a progressive and important decision by choosing to partner with the city of Phoenix for Paradise Valley's fire and emergency medical services coverage.

It's a decision that may help save lives and property for generations, not only for Paradise Valley residents, but also for residents nearby in Phoenix and Scottsdale.

When someone's home is burning or their loved one is having a heart attack, people don't care about city boundaries. They want and need timely, efficient and professional service, and Phoenix Fire is a national leader at providing it.
Here's what the agreement with Phoenix means:
  • Starting in July 2007, Phoenix firefighters will serve Paradise Valley from the town's two existing fire stations.
  • Those stations will not only service Paradise Valley neighborhoods, but also emergency response calls to the Arcadia/Camelback Mountain neighborhood, including the busy Echo Canyon and Cholla Trail hiking areas. As you can imagine, those areas see many injury calls. The "Tatum and Shea" area of Phoenix will also benefit with better service.
  • Phoenix fire fighters stationed in Paradise Valley will provide "automatic aid" to nearby Scottsdale neighborhoods. And fire fighters in Phoenix and Scottsdale can be dispatched to Paradise Valley to help as needed.
  • Paradise Valley residents also will benefit from more direct access to Phoenix Fire's hazardous materials and special rescue teams, ladder companies, satellite dispatch and Phoenix's new twin-engine rescue helicopter.

The new arrangement with Paradise Valley is cutting edge. It's the first time that Phoenix Fire has provided primary coverage to another municipality. We are pleased and honored to work so closely with our neighbors on such a critical service.

Our thanks go to Paradise Valley leaders for placing their trust in Phoenix. We will work as partners with Paradise Valley and be there when people need us.

Phoenix City Councilman Greg Stanton represents Arcadia. Bob Khan is Assistant Fire Chief for the city of Phoenix and will start serving as Fire Chief in August. For more information, contact the Phoenix Fire Department at 602-262-6002.
