Stanton Selected as Vice Mayor

The Phoenix City Council today selected Councilman Greg Stanton to serve
as the city's vice mayor for 2003.
"I am fortunate to have a strong working relationship with each of my City
Council colleagues and I appreciate their confidence in me," said Stanton,
who represents District 6, which includes Ahwatukee Foothills, Arcadia, Biltmore
and north central Phoenix neighborhoods.
Stanton has served on the City Council for three years. He chairs the Education,
Youth and Arts Subcommittee and serves as a member of the City Council subcommittees
overseeing public safety, neighborhood protection and open space preservation.
He also co-chaired the Phoenix Dropout Prevention Task Force.
Stanton is a strong neighborhood and education advocate, serving on the Camelback
East and Ahwatukee Foothills village planning committees prior to joining
the council. He volunteers for Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters and was recently
named the 2002 Valley Big Brother of the Year.
Stanton, 32, earned a bachelor of arts degree from Marquette University and
a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He practices education
law at Gust Rosenfeld in Phoenix.
