Newly elected District 6 Councilman Greg Stanton will take his Oath of Office at the City Council meeting today at 3 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 200 W. Jefferson St.

Stanton, who represents the Ahwatukee Foothills and east Phoenix communities, was elected Sept. 12 in a special election. In February, Stanton was appointed by the City Council as the interim councilman, replacing former Councilman Sal DiCiccio. He will serve the remainder of the current term, which expires January 2002.

"My priorities will continue to be protecting neighborhoods, preserving open space, improving public safety and expanding the city's partnership with public schools," said Stanton.

An education attorney representing public school districts, Stanton graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and has an undergraduate degree in political science and history from Marquette University. He has been a resident of Phoenix since 1973.
