Ahwatukee Foothills' First District Park Opens Oct. 25

Oct. 24, 2003

Vice Mayor Greg Stanton invites the community to an old-fashioned picnic in the park at the grand opening of Pecos Park, Ahwatukee Foothills' first district park, Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The park is located at 17010 S. 48th St. (48th Street and Pecos Parkway; enter from 48th Street).

"This will be a great day for Ahwatukee Foothills. Pecos Park will be a point of pride for our community that will benefit our families for generations to come," said Stanton.

For more information about the grand opening, visit http://www.phoenix.gov/PARKS/pecosprk.pdf (595k). This 66-acre park includes the community's first public swimming pool and water slides; soccer and softball fields; basketball, tennis and volleyball courts; picnic areas, skate park/plaza, playground; and off-leash activity area for dogs.

Opening day events will include a boxed picnic lunch, golf cart tours, local vendor give-aways and activities for all ages, including multiple sports activities, a skate park exhibition, an Itty Bitty Beach Party at the pool, and more.

Funds for the park came from the Phoenix Parks and Preserve Initiative and the 1988 bond program. Future plans include a 40,000-square-foot community and multigenerational center.
