Newly elected District 7 Councilman Michael Nowakowski and his staff are hosting a free community celebration for residents from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Bougainvillea Golf Club, 5740 W. Baseline Road. The celebration serves as a thank you for the community’s support as Nowakowski begins his first term on the City Council and offers residents an opportunity to meet the councilman and the new District 7 staff.
During the event, the community also can meet the chairs and vice chairs of the district’s six Village Planning Committees, which are: Central City, Laveen, South Mountain, Maryvale, Estrella and Encanto. Residents can enjoy free hamburgers, hot dogs, beverages and entertainment provided by various community groups and churches, including the Fiesta Mexicana Dance Troupe, Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Choir, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Mind Team, the Anonymous Youth Step Team and local DJs.
Additional event parking is available at Betty Fairfax High School, 8225 S. 59th Ave. (59th Avenue and Baseline Road). The celebration is sponsored by a nonprofit organization, Los Bomberos, and Mr. Warren Pitman, owner of the Bougainvillea Golf Club.
