Leadership: Wilson Elementary School and Wilson School Coalition

The Wilson Coalition, an almost 10 year old partnership that started through HUD's involvement in Principal for a Day, continues to focus on providing needed services for the children attending Wilson schools. With over 65 members representing numerous private and public entities, the Coalition has attracted over $13 million for the community surrounding the Wilson School Campus. The Coalition has grown to become an institution in the community in identifying the on-going needs of the neighborhood and the corresponding resources to improve the community. The resources provided by Coalition members have significantly enhanced the school curriculum and revitalized the community.

Neighborhood/Community Development: KTVK, Villa Del Sol Block Watch, City of Phoenix & Omega Academy

"Empowering Youth Through Video Project" provided a unique opportunity for teens to make a positive impact on a gang infested Southwest Phoenix neighborhood. Thirty young adults (ages 9-17) who were involved with or influenced by gangs participated in this project. These teens worked together to produce, write, direct, and act in the first statewide bilingual anti-gang PSA. Four business partners and a school (the City of Phoenix, Art in Motion, Villa Del Sol Block Watch, Omega Academy, and KTVK-TV) joined together to make this project a statewide success.

Workforce Development: Discover Card Phoenix Operations Center & Various Schools

In an effort to provide opportunity for employment through customer service and other skills training to high school seniors and individuals with physical, emotional, developmental, economic, and domestic challenges, Discover Card created the BOOST program - Business Organization and Occupation Training. Discover Card develops a ten-week curriculum, provides a training facility, computer equipment, all written materials, classroom instructors, and a formal graduation with luncheon - all at no expense to the participants. Some of the physical disabilities include: cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, hearing impaired, low vision, blind, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury.

Youth Development: Northern Trust Bank & Loma Linda School

Madison Park Neighborhood Community Alliance, Madison Park School and Northern Trust Bank are the founding partners of Arizona Quest for Kids (Quest). Quest is a 501© (3) organization that provides mentoring and scholarships to students with academic potential and whose families are economically disadvantaged. Enrollment in the program is targeted for the fifth grade. The student's successful achievement of various criteria through his or her elementary and high school years will result in a four-year scholarship to an Arizona university or other approved post-secondary educational institute.
