| Preventing chemical contamination and promoting the use of
cleaner materials are important in protecting human health and
the environment. Products with minimal toxic materials reduce
potential exposure to harmful substances when they are used,
and ensure that toxic waste do not end up in landfills, waters
supplies or contribute to air pollution. The city has an excellent
Household Hazardous
Waste program to help residents responsibly dispose of their
waste products. Alternatives and safe disposal options for many
home and office products are included in a guide
sponsored by the Public Works Household Hazardous Waste Program
Currently, the city uses less toxic chemicals such as cleaning
products. The city also reviews chemicals that are used in
city facilities to ensure that the safest product available
is purchased and used by city employees.
