Outdoor Water Use

Use these resources to help conserve water used for outdoor activities:

Landscaping

  • Limit turf
  • Drought tolerant, desert adapted plants
  • Locate and plant trees to shade hardscapes and west facing walls/windows.

High Efficiency Irrigation System

  • Use Xeriscaping (drip system) to water plants and trees
  • Install a central shut-off valve
  • Install a sub-meter for the irrigation system
  • Separately zoned turf, trees, shrubs, ornamentals/vines
  • A timer/controller that activates valves for each watering zone at the best time of day to minimize evaporative losses while maintaining healthy plants.
  • Pressure regulating devices to maintain optimal pressure and prevent misting.
  • High efficiency nozzles.
  • Check valves in heads.

Pools

  • Use pool covers
  • Repair leaks
