Brownfields Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance

Due to changes in economic conditions that affected the Phoenix 2006 Capital Improvement Bond Program, brownfields funding is not available for qualifying projects until Fiscal Year 2016-2027, that is July 1, 2016. Approximately $2.5 million is available. In the interim, interested parties are encouraged to contact brownfields program staff to discuss potential projects as it may be possible to advocate for funding for a qualified project. The program will continue to provide technical assistance, including providing a single point of contact to access city services, streamline development process, liaison with other government agencies, and gain access to other potential funding sources.

Qualifying projects are eligible for grant funding for public infrastructure improvements, development fees and any other city-related costs for redeveloping brownfield sites.

Funds are not available for environmental investigations (Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments), remediation, or asbestos and lead-based paint abatement. Funds are available for projects meeting eligibility requirements.

Funding comes from the original $4 million allocation from the Phoenix 2006 bond program and is available to businesses, property owners, developers and nonprofit organizations for redeveloping environmentally contaminated property known as brownfields.
