Falls Prevention Program

A Matter of Balance Logo"A Matter of Balance" classes, hosted by the city of Phoenix Human Services Department, will begin the week of Jan. 2, 2012 at nine city senior centers.  "A Matter of Balance" is a nationally recognized program that helps participants address their fear of falling.  The program is free and consists of two-hour classes offered once a week for a total of eight weeks.  For more information call 602-262-7379.

Fall injuries are one of the main causes nationally for the loss of independence for people over the age of 60.  The classes cover topics such as fall anxiety, effect of falls on people's finances and health, behavior and home modification, creating a personal action plan, exercise and a pharmaceutical review of current medications.  Classes will be facilitated by physical therapy and occupational therapy students from AT Still University.
