FORENSIC SCIENCE SECTION SUPERVISOR – BUREAU QUALITY MANAGER

EXPERIENCE Requires six years of progressively responsible experience in a forensic science laboratory, performing laboratory analyses, including two years at a supervisory, acting supervisory, or lead level, and a bachelor’s degree in a natural science, criminalistics, or a closely related field. Prior experience as a quality manager is highly desirable. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

DUTIES This position assists the Crime Lab Commander and Assistant Crime Lab Administrators in the implementation and maintenance of the quality operations of the laboratory. The incumbent is responsible for managing the quality program and all related activities of the Laboratory Services Bureau in order to ensure that all American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) standards and guidelines are met and that the lab satisfactorily completes proficiency testing and related quality certifications. The responsibilities include working with the Crime Lab Commander, Assistant Administrators, Section Technical Leaders and/or Supervisors to make policy decisions regarding quality, monitoring laboratory practices to verify continuing compliance with policies and procedures, ensuring the validation of new technical procedures, the administration of the proficiency testing program, and the coordination of the corrective and preventative action request (CPAR) process. The position may also be responsible for supervising a team of laboratory personnel who are responsible for the execution and maintenance of the quality system and the LIMS system. The incumbent must be qualified to appear in court as an expert witness and must have knowledge of principles, methods, materials, equipment, and current techniques of forensics. Currently, there is one vacancy in the Police Department.

ALSO REQUIRED Some positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. Positions in the Police Department must meet the polygraph and background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.

Police Department operations and procedures; 8.) principles and practices of supervision, personnel administration, and budget management; 9.) laboratory, bureau, and department policies and procedures and; 10.) Police laboratory quality programs, accreditation programs, methods and procedures.
