Police Reserve Officer Recruit

The City of Phoenix offers a comprehensive incentive program including: academy tuition reimbursement, flexible work schedule, department provided equipment, annual uniform allowance, in-service training, compensated court time, compensated off-duty work, promotional opportunities, service awards, longevity and other benefits, and the opportunity to transition to the position of career police officer upon the completion of certain requirements.

DUTIES Police Reserve Officer Recruit is a non-sworn trainee class for protective service work in the Police Department. Police Reserve Officer Recruits attend an AZ-POST certified Police Academy to learn various topics related to law enforcement, to become certified as a full-authority police officer. While waiting to attend an academy session Police Reserve Officer Recruits may be assigned to conduct public presentations, complete administrative duties, and/or other job related training. Upon successful completion of the Academy, recruits are sworn and promoted to Police Reserve Officer.

EXPERIENCE Requires that applicants must be at least 20 years old by the date of application, 21 years old by academy graduation; be citizens of the United States; have completed high school or have a GED; be in sound physical and mental health; and have 20/200 vision in each eye, correctable to 20/20 in each eye.

ALSO REQUIRED All positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. Positions in the Police Department must meet the polygraph and background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.
