POLICE / PEACE OFFICER LATERAL TRANSFER


SALARY $21.68 – $30.50 hourly / $45,094 - $63,440 annualized. Appointment can be made above the minimum depending upon qualifications. In addition, there is a $2,000 hiring incentive for lateral transfers. $1,000 is paid after swear-in as a Phoenix Police Officer and the other $1,000 is paid after successful completion of the one year probationary period.


EXPERIENCE All applicants must have at least one year of experience as a peace officer/deputy, with at least one year dedicated to patrol duties (not including administrative and training assignments). Applicants cannot have been separated from a law enforcement agency for more than 12 months at the time of application. Arizona applicants must have at least one year of experience as a peace officer/deputy within the State of Arizona, must have an Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZ POST) certification that is in good standing, and must have successfully completed an AZ POST-certified peace officer law enforcement academy.

DUTIES Performs general duty police work in the protection of life and property through crime prevention and the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Successful applicants will be required to complete the City of Phoenix two-week post-academy. Vacancies are anticipated over the life of this eligible (hiring) list.

ALSO REQUIRED Applicants must meet polygraph, psychological and background standards appropriate to the Police Department. Applicants who meet all of the requirements will be subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Use of City vehicles is required in the performance of assigned duties. Individuals must be physically capable of operating these vehicles safely, possess and maintain a valid Arizona Operator license, and within the previous 36 months, have fewer than 8 driving violation points, fewer than two chargeable accidents, no convictions for DUI and no loss of license as a result of a moving violation. Police Officer positions require working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.

RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.

EVALUATION Based on City of Phoenix application, proof of completion of an academy certified by AZ POST, and verification of current employment as a police/peace officer. A copy of your academy graduation certificate or (for out-of-state applicants) current state certification must be attached to the application.
