Mayor Greg Stanton today announced the formation of his new Neighborhood Advisory Committee.

This new committee, comprised of a diverse group of neighborhood leaders from throughout the city, will advise the Mayor on issues that impact Phoenix neighborhoods. The Committee is chaired by Gwen Relf, executive director of the Rohoboth Community Development Corporation in District 5, and Mary Conant with the Ahwatukee Foothills Crime Prevention Task Force in District 6.

"Phoenix is only as strong as each of its neighborhoods, so it is vitally important to stay directly connected with neighborhood leaders and their ideas and concerns,” Stanton said. “This committee is just one important way to maintain a direct line of communication with key leaders from every corner of the city to ensure their issues are addressed.”

The Committee will meet quarterly with Mayor Stanton and his staff at the Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave. The first meeting will be held in late March.

“Phoenix works best when there are open and direct lines of communication with our elected leaders,” Relf said. “Whether we’re dealing with issues involving law enforcement, parks, streets, neighborhood services or graffiti, we appreciate this opportunity to have a seat at the table to discuss our neighborhood revitalization efforts directly with the Mayor.”

Conant added, “Every neighborhood and every village in Phoenix is different. It is important for the Mayor to hear from a broad range of neighborhoods to get a full sense of what’s really happening. This committee is well suited to provide that advice.”
