Mayor Greg Stanton announced Wednesday that a handshake agreement has been reached between Veolia Transportation Services and Amalgamated Transit Union 1433 amid the bus strike.
Stanton also accelerated a City Council meeting to decide how the Public Transit Department charges Veolia for liquidated damages.
Stanton moved the item, originally planned for March 21, to Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.
“I asked both sides to stay in the room until the deal was done, and I’m proud they kept their commitment so our city’s bus passengers can get to work, get to the doctor and shop at our local businesses,” Stanton said. “Mayors should be problem solvers, and if I can help get our residents back on the bus by moving our council meeting up, I am all in. I expect our bus service to be 100-percent operational very soon.”
