“Today, the majority of my council colleagues and I took an official stand on the immigration issue by adding the topic of comprehensive immigration reform to the city’s 2013 federal legislative agenda.  I would like to thank the members of the Arizona delegation for their leadership on this issue.  Comprehensive immigration reform is critical at this stage in our Country’s history as it will reunify, rather than tear apart, families, and reinvigorate, rather than hobble, our still fragile economy.  We have invested time and money to educate millions of bright and hopeful young people and it is in our best interest as a country to retain their talents and skills to help grow and diversify our economy.  As the sixth largest city in the country, located at the epicenter of this issue, it is critical that we make clear our vision for the reform of policies that impact thousands of people who call Phoenix home.”
