Today at 12:30 p.m., Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis will meet with Councilman Michael Nowakowski and other Latino community leaders at the Cesar Chavez Foundation, 1440 E. Washington St. This event is open to the media and there will be an opportunity to ask questions, from 1:40 to 1:50 p.m.
The discussion will focus on the Labor Department’s programs and policies in relation to the Phoenix Latino community.
“The economic recession has been tough for many in our community, but Latinos in Phoenix still face unique challenges when it comes to job opportunities, working conditions and equity in pay,” said Councilman Nowakowski. “We are pleased that Labor Secretary Solis has chosen to sit down with Phoenix Latino leaders to hear our concerns, and take our message back to decision makers in D.C.”
This visit to Phoenix is the final stop on a three-day tour in which Secretary Solis is speaking with students to learn what the Labor Department can do to help new workers get ahead in today’s modern workforce.
