Burton Barr Central Library will host an exhibition of work by Laura Spalding Best, titled “Interconnections," June 5 – August 8 at the library’s @Central Gallery, 1221 N. Central Ave.  An opening reception with the artist will be held 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, June 7.  The local instrumental chamber rock band Larkspurs will perform.

Best’s work explores the collective aesthetic of the urban landscape.  Specifically, her paintings separate and celebrate the blights on the vista, and emphasize the unappreciated flaws in our everyday view.  (View high resolution images.)

Best has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Arizona State University.  She has participated in a number of solo and group shows throughout Phoenix.  Best created the public mural, “Centennial” at the APS Power Substation on Roosevelt Row.  She is currently the exhibitions manager at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
