As part of Mayor Greg Stanton’s effort to increase transparency, the City Council approved Wednesday a plan to broadcast live city council subcommittee meetings.

“The live televising of public meetings is essential for transparency so Phoenix residents can see what decisions are being made at the city and how they are being made,” Stanton said. “Subcommittees are on the front lines of policy making, and I want to make sure our residents can see it and get involved.”

To improve accessibility and transparency of the city’s public meetings, Stanton requested in February that the City Manager evaluate the feasibility of televising 60 City Council subcommittee meetings per year.

The City Council approved Wednesday to broadcast live the subcommittee meetings from the city council first floor assembly rooms.

The city will now air subcommittee meetings live on Channel 11 and beginning in September. Videos will also be posted on the city’s YouTube site at
