Mayor Greg Stanton released the following statement today regarding the City Council’s unanimous decision to put pension reform on the ballot in March 2013:

“We have seen decisions made hastily then struck down by courts in the recent past from other levels of government on pension issues. By taking the necessary time (without costing the city more) to consider all options, we will be able to get pension reform right. Pension reform is an important issue, both to taxpayers and to city employees. We not only have to find a solution that saves the city hundreds of millions of dollars, but also attracts talented workers to deliver the highest quality services. We have to do right by our hard-working taxpayers and our hard-working city employees so that a fair outcome benefits our city’s future economy as a whole.”
