The future just got a whole lot closer for the residents in Northwest Phoenix, and I am so pleased that my City Council colleagues voted in favor of putting the stalled Northwest Light Rail Extension into high gear.  The extension will now open in 2015, eight years earlier than expected.

The light rail extension will play a major role in the revitalization of a part of our city’s core, and create 1,500 jobs.  This was a campaign promise that I have worked hard to keep, an issue I made a priority based on neighborhood input.  This is about so much more than just completing the promise made to the voters of Phoenix; it is about providing access to transportation for more than 20,000 people who live around the project, and encouraging a more sustainable approach to transportation that reduces our city’s overall carbon footprint.

I will be there when the first shovel hits the dirt and I will be there to see the first train slide across the tracks into the part of Phoenix we call home.
