Aug. 3, 2011
Beginning Aug. 6, the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will reopen nine city pools for weekend swimming through the Labor Day holiday. The city chose for reopening nine pools strategically located throughout the city – Paradise Valley, Deer Valley, Sunnyslope, Falcon, Maryvale, Pecos, Encanto, Hermoso, Perry – that were heavily visited throughout the 2011 swim season.
City pools were originally scheduled to close for the season on July 31. The additional weekend operation, which will cost approximately $146,000, was possible because Parks and Recreation Department staff closely controlled spending throughout the 2010/11 fiscal year resulting in savings at the end of the year.
The pools will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. each weekend day through the Labor Day holiday Sept. 5. More information on city pools is available on the Parks and Recreation Department website at phoenix.gov/parks.
